How to get here
Istanbul
Turkish Airlines is now one of the major airlines in the world. It has international and domestic flights arriving and leaving every hour of the day. Some visitors arrive on the waves while bus connections within the country are excellent. The roads are good though you would be fairly brave if you actually want to drive yourself into the centre of Istanbul.
Air
The New Istanbul Airport is the main airport and is situated on the European side. A host of airlines fly into Istanbul on a daily basis; the city is one of the most accessible in the world.
Sabiha Gokcen on the Asian side is not quite as busy but there are plenty of cheap charter flights coming in and Turkey’s second airline, Pegasus is growing all the time.
Istanbul is the hub of domestic traffic with flights to all parts of the Country. Read more about arriving by air.
Sea
Cruise ships regularly dock in Istanbul in the summer season. There is no longer a ferry along the Black Sea’s southern shore but there is still plenty of sea traffic, mostly commercial though linking the Black Sea ultimately to the Aegean and beyond.
Road
Istanbul is linked to the rest of Turkey with its excellent coach services. They are cheap and comfortable.
Getting around
There are plans for a tunnel under the Bosphorus which will help to ease the current congestion. There are two major bridges across the Bosphorus and regular ferries transporting people from one continent to another. Locally there are trams, minibuses and metered taxis to get you to your club, beach or restaurant.
