No trip to Symi would be complete without a visit to Panormitis which is situated on the south of the island, as you sail into this very pretty harbor you will be greeted by its wonderful 18th-century monastery, also known as the monastery of Taxiarchis, a beautiful long white Venetian building, plundered in the 2nd world war, However, it has been fully restored and converted into a delightful tourist attraction, dedicated to the Archangel Michael the patron saint of sailors. The monastery is set against a backdrop of pine trees. The bell tower of the Monastery was built in 1905 and sounds a bell every time a ferry either comes into port or departs a lovely old tradition. Here you can sit along the harbourfront, enjoy Turkish tea, and watch the yachts sail in.
