Orhaniye
Orhaniye
On the western side of the Bozburun Peninsula and not too far from Bodrum lies the small resort town of Orhaniye. It has an air of mystery because of the sandbank in the waters making it possible to walk out into the ocean and give the illusion that you are “walking on water”. There is a local myth that one time there was a beautiful princess, the daughter of the Bybassos King, who wanted to meet with her lover. As she did not know how to swim she filled the hem of her skirt with sand so that she could fill the ocean so that they could meet. But she ran out of the sand and drowned, giving this place another name Kizkumu - which literally means - "girl sand".
Orhaniye is also well known for having the largest marina outside of Marmaris on the Bozburun Peninsula and is where many private yachts are docked. The area is also known for the best sailing in the Mediterranean. Within the bay, you will see an island with the ruins of an ancient castle believed to belong to the ancient city of Bybassos.
From here you can sail along the Peninsula and visit other enchanting villages such as Selimiye, Bozburun and Cnidus.
